I speak for myself when I say, as a white female in Memphis, I don't care if the NEXT mayor is black, white, hispanic, asian.. Frankly ANYONE at this point could run and do a better job. Herenton is a crook, period. If Herman Morris were to win the election last November, I would support him and be happy to welcome him into office. If Carol Chumney won, I would do the same. When Kriner Kash got the job for Memphis Superintendent, I think a lot of people of all races approved of him. It's not about "white folks ran things long enough", face the facts, Herenton has "ran" this city for nearly all of my life (I am 22), so he has had long enough to prove himself. We need someone who cares about this city and the people in it. Look at it this way, has Herenton even began to address even crippling issues in this city on a personal level, coming down to speak at the Rape Crisis Center - which was all over the news for the past few weeks; has he come to the families of murdered victims to express condolences and speak to the criminals directly who are tearing our city apart? No! He doesn't care about white people, he doesn't care about black people, Herenton only cares about HERENTON. That is all! It's not a race thing, he only uses that to worm into the minds of uneducated people - another thing he is partially responsible for causing, as he collapsed the education system here as well. Think about it, he is hiring all of his UNQUALIFIED unworthy friends to sit in the highest positions in Memphis. Do you honestly think they give a crap about you and your family? Get a clue, Tereka. We need to, as a city, STOP allowing this man and others to make us see color first and the person for who they are second. Herenton is selfish and self-serving. The poor are still poor, and poverished areas in Memphis are expanding. Facts and evidence are clear and obvious. It's time the people of Memphis looked at them without the rose-colored glasses.
