Are you Old Enough to Enjoy a Sam Adams?
This is the question the Portland Mayor should have asked the young legislative intern Beau Breedlove. It appears that there is some question as to Mr. Breedlove’s age at the time of the affair.
At first, Mayor Adams denied the relationship as he was throwing his hat in the ring for his 2007 bid as Portland’s Mayor, but later confessed to having the relationship, stating that Mr. Breedlove was 18 at the time of the affair. The allegations seem harmful at first, but there seems to be another issue at hand. The issue is whether or not Mayor Adams used his position to keep others quiet about the affair in order to win the election. This is a big no-no in the eyes of the feds.
I’m sure it’s hard enough to be running for office and also be Gay. This shouldn’t matter, but it seems to always be an issue. Throw in the possibility of a statutory rape charge, as well as an obstruction charge, and you’ve kinda backed yourself in a corner. Not to mention the fact that some of the people questioned about the affair by investigators, may have lied to cover for Mayor Adams. This would be bad for them as well, not to mention they would be more apt to testify against the Mayor instead of being charged themselves.
Either way, the Mayor has somewhat of an uphill battle on his hands. The old saying holds true for any job, “Don’t get your Meat where you get your Bread”.
