It seems that Mayor Daley is going back on his word to be accessible to all questions concerning his administration. During a press conference Mayor Daley read a one page statement and did not answer any questions from reporters. After speaking about home foreclosures, his statement was as follows:

“I want to say to the people of the city of Chicago that I understand that this is a disappointment and that this conviction does not reflect well on the administration or the city. For that I am sorry,” Daley said, reading from a sheet of paper.

“I really appreciate the press conference. And I’ve been at many, many press conferences,” Daley said. As reporters pressed ahead with questions, the mayor walked away, saying: “Thank you. OK. No other questions. Thank you. Thank you.”

This conference comes just one day after Al Sanchez, former Streets and Sanitation Commissioner, was found guilty of rigging hiring for pro-Daley campaign workers.

Daley declined to answer the next question about whether he ever spoke with his brother William Daley or political strategist, Timothy Degnan, about creating the Hispanic Democratic Organization. The group known as HDO deployed hundreds of patronage workers for Daley and his endorsed candidates for more than ten years.
